Are those who actually work in the technology industry themselves....
Just something that made my night (or morning? you decide).
Had an email go out @ work yesterday about games on the work Laptops. Ok, I can understand that we're not meant to load them onto the lappies - My bad (not that I got in trouble for it).
however I also found out how this all came about (And yes, it was my fault.. bad me again).
The laptop's touchpad can be disabled by a key combo (FN + F7 to be precise). We'd done this the night before to play some Red Alert 2 LAN-action (getting an ipx/spx only lan game running via an ad-hoc wlan network is fun btw).. I forgot to re-enable the touchpads when we finished (ok, I actually thought that it'd auto-reenable when the lappy was shutdown.. I now know it doesn't).
Apparantly it took several people (including at least one or two of our SME, or 'subject matter experts' + a Team leader or two) almost three hours to figure out how to turn the touchpads back on today. We're talking people who are pretty computer literate (hell, at least one of them has their Bach of I.T.).
Yes.
THREE HOURS.
To find the button (F7) on the Laptop that has a picture of a rectangular "pad" & a hand touching it. Which is in blue, which also happens to be the same colour as the FN key on the Laptop.
Everyday I'm stunned by some of the things I get asked by customers, then get absolutely bowled over by a stunning display like the above... It's almost worth losing the ability to play games in here over for the amount of laughter this gave me (Almost.. no more levelling alts on horribly slow nights for me :( ) |
